It’s almost summer time! I have been quite delusional about summer being around the corner especially with days like today, clear blue sky and a warm touch of sun. I couldn’t stop selecting wine like white and Champagne convincing I am in need of drinking them because summer is here!
How about rosé? Am not a big fans to be honest despite it seems like a fashion to drink it these few years. Maybe it’s because it has a certain stylish appeal, like you’re in the south of France having a long, lazy lunch on the beach; while for few others, they know it’s equally yummy and refreshing on a sidewalk, a patio or just their couch. And I usually don’t spend too much on a rosé not to mention this is a 80-90 euro one (what?!).
Since I saw a great offer at Slurp Asia for this bottle, Chateau d’Esclans Garrus from Provence, which is heralded as the greatest rosé in the world and with its very limited quantity (250 cases made) makes it a highly select wine. I ordered a case and today it’s at my door. Couldn’t wait to try it out.
It is in beautiful salmon pink color, carrying a lovely creamy texture, full of tropical fruits and cherry flavor. A bit toasted and having a mineral, sweet lemony cream on the finish. Round and elegant, surely a different kind of rosé I had experienced. A very unusal rosé! Its aged in old oak barrels which give its creamy rich character. The grape varieties are 80 year old Grenache and Rolle. 100% from free-run juice.
Am not sure if I would suddenly be a rosé fan because of this bottle. Besides Garrus, with its usual price point of 80euro, I may not take the risk of finding another good rosé, might as well pick a burgundy white or my new love Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc (guess I should cover it in my later post…). But then, I can’t lie, I love this wine and I am sure will finish the case pretty soon before summer arrives. Better to drink with food than just alone as an apéritif.
