Tutti Vino Italiano@ Gambero Rosso

Last year, I had the occasion to visit personally to meet the owner and founder Mr. Pierluigi Tolaini and his fantasy land in Tuscany and also few Tuscane vinyards.

The well acknowledged Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso today present its very first Chinese edition and as Tolaini and  few other Chateau Wine makers I met these few years in HK and around the world are one of the wineries that received the desired three glasses award.  I was being arrange a “get together” between me and few of these awarded wines.  It’s for sure a must go for me to check them out again.

It was being held in Island Shangrila HK Island Ballroom.   When I stepped in, I was “Tutti Italiani! ” (all italian!) there were around 90+ wine Chateau from Italy that is invited by the Wine Guide and featuring their award winning wine.  Drinking up this and that from few very nice Barolo from Piemonte to some Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino  from Tuscane to  even few small chateau around the Bolgheri town.  The  “Tutti Italiani” wine makes the night fascinating.

Azienda Agricola Giovanni Rosso is a family-owned 12 hectare estate located in Serralunga d'Alba, in the eastern side of Barolo. The family been making wines under their own label since 1995. Young Winemaker Davide Rosso make this wine a Attractive nose -- sweet dusty rose petals, bit of balsamic , with layers of complexity. Soft, fruity, with berries that virtually covers the barolo tannins; seems like it lacks structure in the finish, probably a great wine for the longer term, if you can wait.
love its great nose. this 100% Nebbiolo has a very Xmas styled - has dried flowers and ripe fruits with a Xmas pudding undertone. full body with chewy tannins rich finish
friendly Andrea Monti Perini, representative of the wine. Great wine you can buy it at Maxscene Wineshop in HK
Arrived at Tolaini. Where is Mr. Tolaini?? I always call him the Ferrari man secretly (as he drive his red ferrari everywhere in Tuscane while I was there) This is Tamara Maccarini from the Chateau sharing the latest vintage of their flagship wines: Valdisanti 2008 that was awarded with the three glasses and Picconero 2008
Massimo Piccin from Podere Sapaio. this wine is from Bolgheri town. it's 2005: one of the best super tuscan with such a price (around Hkd 900 I assume) Just like quite a few italian wine lover, James Suckling of the Wine Spectator went bananas over the Sapaio as well: "Intense, complex aromas of currant, licorice and light toasty oak. Full-bodied, with rich, caressing tannins and loads of ripe fruit and grilled meat flavors." 95 POINT
When over because of "What a name!!!!" as outrageous as the wine, Negro Angelo & Figli 2008 Reserver itself! Heavily perfumed roses with black fruits. Dry and balanced tannins with truffle note. Long oaky finish. Met daughter Emanuela Negro, one of the winemaker in the family and she is awesome.
OOPs.. think am getting there.. totally forgotten how it tasted. Am sure it's good as this wine get a 3 glass award for their Pinot Noir!
Tenuta Caccia al Piano 1868, located in the very heart of Bolgheri's most exceptional viticultural area, Castagneto Carducci. The estate comprises 20 hectares under vine, divided into three separate vineyards, each at a different elevation. Alessandro Vella showing this 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Syrah. Dense and saturated red

Shaky drunk photo with the passionate Luca Speri from Speri. Tried his fresh and approachable Speri Amarone della Valpolicella 2006. From Gambero Rosso : "The nose was rich and sweet yet somehow earthy and refined. Aromas of cotton candy, fresh turned soil and cherry wafted up from the glass. On the palate, I found a sweet and silky expression of black cherry, spice and cedar. The finish was long yet remarkable refreshing."
